{"id":38921,"date":"2018-02-26T15:20:32","date_gmt":"2018-02-26T15:20:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=38921"},"modified":"2018-02-26T15:20:32","modified_gmt":"2018-02-26T15:20:32","slug":"funding-to-transform-coastal-communities-opens-for-bids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/funding-to-transform-coastal-communities-opens-for-bids\/38921\/","title":{"rendered":"Funding to transform coastal communities opens for bids"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Coastal Communities Minister, Jake Berry, has announced that funding aimed at transforming coastal communities through investment in jobs, skills and local businesses, is open for bids<\/h2>\n<p>As a result of the government\u2019s Coastal Communities Fund, 500 new businesses boasting 5,500+ jobs have been created.<\/p>\n<p>The opening of the next \u00a340m round of applications was announced by Berry while visiting Barrow-in-Furness to see first-hand how the fund has delivered major economic benefits for the Cumbrian town and wider coastal area.<\/p>\n<p>Berry, said: \u201cI\u2019m delighted to announce that applications are now open for the next round of the Coastal Communities Fund.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoastal Communities up and down the country from Barrow-in-Furness to Brighton have been boosted by this funding which has spurred inward investment, sustainable growth, new jobs and exciting economic opportunities for local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy 2020, we\u2019ll have invested nearly a quarter of a billion pounds in our seaside areas, providing thousands of jobs, training places and opportunities along the Great British Coast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Coastal Communities Fund (CCF) backs the economic renovation of UK coastal communities by giving funding to create sustainable economic growth and jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2012, the government\u2019s\u00a0CCF\u00a0has awarded grants to 295 projects across the UK, totalling over \u00a3174m. Analysis has shown that this has been money well spent, with every \u00a31 invested having the potential to create an up to \u00a38 boost to our coastal economies. Successful projects have included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cornwall council receiving a \u00a31.95m grant in 2014 to repair and re-launch the Grade II Listed Art Deco \u2018Jubilee Pool\u2019 in Penzance to create an all year round visitor attraction sustaining existing jobs and creating new positions.<\/li>\n<li>In January 2015, Blackpool city council received a \u00a32m\u00a0CCF\u00a0grant towards the \u2018Lightpool\u2019 project to deliver a radical transformation of the Blackpool Illuminations, creating a new visitor experience and a major boost to the local economy.<\/li>\n<li>The Tate St Ives was awarded a \u00a33.87m grant in 2015 to refurbish and extend the Tate Gallery in St Ives.<\/li>\n<li>Amble \u2013 the seafood town \u2013 Northumberland.
