{"id":38978,"date":"2018-02-28T12:36:30","date_gmt":"2018-02-28T12:36:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=38978"},"modified":"2018-02-28T12:36:30","modified_gmt":"2018-02-28T12:36:30","slug":"open-doors-campaign-launches-to-give-public-access-to-over-270-construction-sites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/open-doors-campaign-launches-to-give-public-access-to-over-270-construction-sites\/38978\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Doors campaign launches to give public access to over 270 construction sites"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Open Doors, a campaign which sees the construction industry open live sites and offices presenting a unique chance to enjoy behind the scenes access across sites in England, Scotland and Wales, was launched today (28 February)<\/h2>\n<p>The Open Doors campaign, which is led by <a href=\"https:\/\/builduk.org\/\">Build UK<\/a> in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/\">Construction Industry Training Board (CITB)<\/a>, aims to inspire young people and career changers to consider and explore a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/review-suggests-schools-must-do-more-to-encourage-careers-in-construction\/38411\/\">career in the construction<\/a> industry.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is an industry of opportunity. According to the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/research-insight\/construction-skills-network\/\">Construction Skills Network<\/a> report 158,000 jobs will be created in the sector from 2018-2022. Jobs in demand include carpenters, labourers and white collar managerial roles highlighting the diverse range of opportunities in the industry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/open-doors-2017-construction-careers\/29863\/\">Last year\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/open-doors-2017-construction-careers\/29863\/\">campaign<\/a> saw over 5,000 bookings across 200 construction sites in England, Scotland and Wales. This year\u2019s campaign, which takes place from 19-24 March, will see over 270 sites open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>At today\u2019s launch event students from local schools and colleges were invited to an exciting preview of the iconic One Blackfriars on the Thames riverside. During the launch, students and attendees were treated to a behind the scenes tour of the on-going construction work and the panoramic views from the 32nd floor.<\/p>\n<p>One Blackfriars is a great example of a modern construction project, and highlights the range of roles that together build our new homes.<\/p>\n<p>Other sites opening their doors to the public in England, Scotland and Wales during the campaign include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Edinburgh College of Art<\/li>\n<li>Zenith Building, Capital Quarter, Cardiff<\/li>\n<li>Exeter University Student Hubs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Suzannah Nichol MBE, Build UK Chief Executive, said: \u201cOpen Doors 2018 is set to be another record-breaking year with fantastic, iconic sites like One Blackfriars opening up across England, Scotland and Wales.
