The National House Building Council (NHBC) highlights the most frequently reported items of 2017 and how these can be avoided to keep workers safe<\/h2>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/\">Health and Safety Executive (HSE)<\/a>, during 2016\/17 around 1,200 of house-building site injuries were due to slips, trips or falls.<\/p>\n<p>Effective management of working areas and access routes could prevent some of these injuries. With an estimated 2.3 million working days lost each year in construction between 2014\/15 and 2016\/17 due to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/statistics\/industry\/construction\/construction.pdf\">workplace injury (17%) and work-related illness (83%)<\/a>, NHBC, the leading provider of health and safety services to the home-building industry and the organiser of the UK\u2019s only industry health and safety awards scheme, highlights the most recurrent reported items in the final quarter of 2017:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Workers working on scaffold with no guardrails in place<\/li>\n<li>No fall protection on open stairwells<\/li>\n<li>Access routes blocked with site materials<\/li>\n<li>No eye protection being worn when using a paslode nail gun<\/li>\n<li>No respiratory protection being worn when using a disc cutter or saw<\/li>\n<li>No <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/bsg-reports-increase-in-traffic-management-breaches-on-construction-sites\/36282\/\">pedestrian\/traffic segregation<\/a> in place, with operatives and members of the public walking in the road with the site traffic<\/li>\n<li>Scaffold not being erected correctly in accordance with TG 20.13.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NHBC health and safety advisers can provide coaching and advice to site managers, and when the right measures are in place, the safety of a site can be dramatically improved.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Ashworth, Health &amp; Safety Services Manager, said: \u201cOver recent years, we have seen big improvements with regards to safety on site and the number of injuries to construction workers has reduced.
