This case study details Nine Elms Point and how Metsec are providing design and walling services to the regeneration project<\/h2>\n

Nine Elms Point is a former Sainsbury\u2019s site in London\u2019s Vauxhall district that is being redeveloped to house a new Sainsbury\u2019s store and a combination of three high rise and four low rise residential blocks, providing 647 apartments.<\/p>\n

Sub-contractor Stanmore was appointed as installer to carry out the external fa\u00e7ade works for the 10,000m2<\/sup>residential blocks, including aluminium and glass claddings, insulated render systems and infill walling.<\/p>\n

voestalpine Metsec plc\u2019s steel framing systems<\/h3>\n

Specified on the project, voestalpine Metsec<\/a> plc\u2019s steel framing systems (SFS) infill walling was selected for both its flexibility in terms of sizing, and the additional design services that Metsec is able to provide to projects.<\/p>\n

The design services were utilised in the early stages of the project to provide the structural calculations and system requirements for the SFS walling in order to adequately support the various external wall cladding systems that Stanmore would be implementing.<\/p>\n

Metsec was also able to provide solutions and installation details for areas where non-standard Metsec product would be required. To create the solutions, Metsec took the basic design provided by Stanmore, and its dedicated design team bespoke-engineered the sections and connections details.<\/p>\n

This allowed Metsec to use its standard sections, but in a bespoke arrangement, to form the soffits and downstands. In addition to the design, Metsec was able to provide the structural calculations and loading of the solution, to demonstrate that the bespoke solution is able to sufficiently support the cladding on the project.<\/p>\n

These design capabilities were integral to the project, with Metsec\u2019s structural calculations used in the approvals process from external consultants for the composition of each wall. A combination of 100mm and 150mm thickness infill walling was used across the project.<\/p>\n

Regeneration at Nine Elms Point<\/h3>\n

In total, the regeneration of the site in Vauxhall is scheduled to take five years with Nine Elms Point due for completion in spring 2020. In addition to the supermarket and residential housing, the area will see the development of the new Nine Elms underground station which will form part of the extended Northern Line.<\/p>\n

Peter Baker, Director of Operations at Stanmore Contractors, said: \u201cAn important part of Metsec\u2019s offering was the flexibility of design. The SFS infill could be designed to suit various wall build-ups and multiple storey heights.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ability to fit a variety of requirements made Metsec the ideal partner for this project.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ryan Simmonds, sales director or framing at Metsec, said: \u201cThe Nine Elms Point development is a major regeneration project for southwest London and we are pleased to have been involved.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a significant amount of investment in the area including the new US embassy, two new underground stations and 20,000 new homes, and Nine Elms Point will be a centrepiece to this renewed area.\u201d<\/p>\n
