{"id":40486,"date":"2018-04-18T12:23:03","date_gmt":"2018-04-18T11:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=40486"},"modified":"2018-04-18T12:23:03","modified_gmt":"2018-04-18T11:23:03","slug":"250m-sighthill-tra-regeneration-progresses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/250m-sighthill-tra-regeneration-progresses\/40486\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a3250m Sighthill TRA regeneration progresses"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Glasgow City Council has signed an agreement with Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) and Keepmoat Homes to build 800 homes and retail\/commercial properties at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/keepmoat-regeneration-to-deliver-new-energy-efficient-homes-for-north-sighthill\/36958\/\">Sighthill Transformational Regeneration Area<\/a> (TRA)<\/h2>\n<p>The \u00a3250m Sighthill TRA is the largest regeneration scheme of its type in the UK outside of London.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lda-design.co.uk\/\">\u00a0LDA Design<\/a> has been involved with the project from the start and designed its landscape-led masterplan. The practice will now work with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keepmoat.com\/\">Keepmoat Homes<\/a> to progress the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>LDA Design has been working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgow.gov.uk\/\">Glasgow City Council<\/a> on what it calls \u2018advanced infrastructure\u2019 for the site, which will see a network of active travel routes, open public spaces, allotments and more than 20 hectares of new parkland delivered in advance of the Keepmoat development.<\/p>\n<p>The parkland, with its lochans, burns and wetlands, will provide better flood protection and improve local biodiversity. It forms part of an advanced urban drainage and water management scheme.<\/p>\n<p>LDA design director\u00a0Kirstin Taylor\u00a0said: &#8220;This is a key moment in the history of Sighthill. We are delighted to have the opportunity to further progress the plans to create a welcoming place to call home that is well connected to the rest of the city.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sighthill TRA\u00a0is one of eight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/keepmoat-regeneration-refurbishes-its-planning-approach-across-the-business\/38147\/\">regeneration programmes<\/a> across the city, and the first to benefit from the \u00a31bn Government investment which came with the Glasgow City Region City Deal.<\/p>\n<p>When complete, the regeneration will also deliver a new community school campus, a new \u2018street in the sky\u2019 footbridge across the M8 motorway due to be built late next year and a new road bridge across the railway to link Sighthill and Port Dundas, due for delivery later this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Sighthill TRA replaces a housing estate of 20 10-storey tower blocks built in 1969 which once housed\u00a0more than 7,500 people who built a strong community. But by the mid-1980s the area was suffering from high unemployment, crime and drug abuse and was labelled a sink estate.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor added: &#8220;This was once a very close knit community. In developing the masterplan, we wanted to create an accessible, social and safe place to live with a distinct identity that builds on this historic spirit of togetherness. As far as I am aware, it is the single largest landscape-led regeneration scheme in Scotland.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Glasgow City Council convener for neighbourhoods, housing and public realm councillor Kenny McLean said: &#8220;The signing of this agreement between Glasgow City Council, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gha.org.uk\/\">Glasgow Housing Association<\/a> and Keepmoat Homes is another milestone in the regeneration of Sighthill.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The transformation of the area will serve as an example of what can be done in urban regeneration, with the creation of a fantastic neighbourhood immediately beside the city centre. We can now anticipate this work starting and being able to watch the skyline of both Sighthill and Glasgow change over the years.
