{"id":41426,"date":"2018-05-15T15:15:42","date_gmt":"2018-05-15T14:15:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=41426"},"modified":"2018-05-15T15:15:42","modified_gmt":"2018-05-15T14:15:42","slug":"cpre-react-to-interim-report-of-the-raynsford-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/cpre-react-to-interim-report-of-the-raynsford-review\/41426\/","title":{"rendered":"CPRE react to interim report of the Raynsford Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>CPRE welcomes a new interim report by former housing minister Nick Raynsford reviewing the planning system in England, which will be presented to the House of Lords today (15 May)<\/h2>\n<p>The Raynsford Review of Planning challenges current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/government-launches-new-planning-reforms-to-deliver-homes-for-everyone\/39101\/\">planning reform<\/a> and provides powerful support of CPRE\u2019s view that the planning system has become too focused on delivering raw numbers of new houses, with little or no consideration for where they should be built, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/government-backs-innovation-for-good-quality-homes\/40721\/\"> quality of their design<\/a>, and whether they are genuinely affordable.<\/p>\n<p>The report makes nine provisional recommendations for reforms to the planning system including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Giving the public a greater voice in the planning process;<\/li>\n<li>The use of development corporations to deal with issues such as flood risk and economic renewal;<\/li>\n<li>And the use of \u2018betterment\u2019 taxes to fund regeneration in low-demand areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tom Fyans, Director of Policy and Campaigns at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpre.org.uk\/\">Campaign to Protect Rural England<\/a> said:\u00a0\u201cThis important report highlights the scale of the challenge facing the new Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/james-brokenshire-confirmed-as-new-housing-secretary\/40902\/\">James Brokenshire<\/a>, as he inherits a fundamentally broken planning system \u2013 we fully support its recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to see planning policies that work to rebalance the economy, and create genuine support for regeneration across the country.
