Over the next five years, it is expected that the government\u2019s flagship housing policy will help over 1 million people getting onto the housing ladder, according to official statistics<\/h2>\n

Thanks to the government\u2019s UK stamp duty cut, 121,500 first-time buyers have saved a total of \u00a3284m, according to official statistics released on 31 July<\/a>\u00a0which cover the period until 30 June this year.<\/p>\n

First-time buyers<\/a> purchasing homes of \u00a3300,000 and under now pay no stamp duty at all, and those who have bought properties of up to \u00a3500,000 will also have benefited from a stamp duty cut.<\/p>\n

Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Mel Stride, said: \u201cOnce again, we can see that our cut to stamp duty for first-time buyers is helping to make the dream of home ownership a reality for a new generation \u2013 exactly as we intended.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition, we\u2019re building more homes in the right areas, and have introduced generous schemes such as the Lifetime ISA and Help to Buy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michael McCarthy, Developer at Equitas Properties<\/a> said: \u201c46% of our new home buyers benefited from the recently introduced stamp duty reduction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis policy allowed these new home buyers reduced acquisition costs while increasing options, choice and purchasing power.\u201d<\/p>\n

The elimination of UK stamp duty is part of the government\u2019s long-term commitment to make housing more affordable.\u00a0 As part of the Autumn Budget housing package<\/a>, the Chancellor announced at least \u00a344bn for housing \u2013 which includes at least \u00a315.3bn of financial support for housebuilding over the next five years \u2013 and an aim to build 300,000 new homes a year in the areas that need it, as well as encouraging better use of land in cities and towns.<\/p>\n
