{"id":45797,"date":"2018-08-21T15:01:59","date_gmt":"2018-08-21T14:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=45797"},"modified":"2022-10-19T15:28:33","modified_gmt":"2022-10-19T14:28:33","slug":"costain-connected-vehicle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/costain-connected-vehicle\/45797\/","title":{"rendered":"Costain wins connected vehicle technology contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Costain has been awarded a technology contract to design, install and implement one of the UK\u2019s first pilot connected vehicle corridors on a live road<\/h2>\n<p>Awarded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/highways-england\">Highways England<\/a>, the contract is in collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-transport\">Department for Transport<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/\">Transport for London (TfL)<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.gov.uk\/\">Kent County Council<\/a> and Highways England.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.costain.com\/\">Costain<\/a> will deliver this contract with core partners, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mottmac.com\/\">Mott MacDonald<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.4wayconsulting.com\/\">4way Consulting<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/trl.co.uk\/\">TRL<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kapsch.net\/ktc\">Kapsch TrafficCom AG<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altran.com\/uk\/en\/\">Altran<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cohdawireless.com\/\">Cohda Wireless<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/telent.com\/\">Telent Technology Services Ltd<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telefonica.com\/en\/\">Telefonica<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Under the contract, known as the A2M2 connected corridor, Costain will deliver roadside technology using data supplied by TfL, Highways England and Kent County Council and a technology testbed for Cooperative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/technology-transport-revolution\/29448\/\">Intelligent Transport<\/a> Systems (C-ITS).<\/p>\n<p>This flagship contract will help to promote the UK as market leader in Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) and C-ITS technology.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Wyllie CBE, chief executive said: \u201cThis is an important step in making our roads safer and improving journey time reliability by embracing cutting edge technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a further demonstration of Costain\u2019s capability and we look forward to leading the way with the deployment and testing of this exciting technology\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Wilson, safety, engineering and standards executive director, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/highways-england-names-winners-in-resurfacing-framework\/41233\/\">Highways England<\/a>, added: &#8220;Having the technology in place to allow vehicles to connect to each other and the road around them has the potential to improve journeys, making them safer and more reliable by providing real-time, personalised information directly to the driver. It could also help us manage traffic and respond to incidents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The A2\/M2 trial will test and demonstrate how this may work in the real world.
