Barratt Developments has acquired 14 sites as part of plans to build nearly 4,000 new homes in Scotland, in response to the \u201ccontinued demand for its new homes\u201d<\/h2>\n

Barratt whose brands include Barratt Homes<\/a> and David Wilson Homes<\/a>, aims to build 2,560 homes on 14 sites it purchased in the first half the year. The developer has also set its sights on a further 10 sites for another 1,415 homes.<\/p>\n

In total, the sites will include around 700 affordable properties<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The recently-acquired sites are spread around Scotland, including Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Perth, as well as East Lothian, West Lothian, East Renfrewshire, North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire.<\/p>\n

Barratt intends to begin building on the new sites in the first half of next year, subject to planning approvals.<\/p>\n

The Scottish Government<\/a> has projected that 465,000 new homes are needed by 2035 to cope with the rising housing demand.<\/p>\n

Housing completions across Scotland in 2017 rose 4.8% to 17,739, but that figure totalled just 806 extra new homes compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n

This year marks Barratt\u2019s 60th anniversary with the housebuilder having built more than 450,000 homes across the UK since it began in 1958.<\/p>\n

Douglas McLeod, the company’s regional managing director for Scotland, said: “Demand for good-quality homes in Scotland shows no signs of slowing, in line with a steadily growing population.<\/p>\n

“For our part, we are continuing to invest in Scotland, acquiring new sites and building homes in popular places where people want to live.<\/p>\n

“The good news is that we’re seeing an increase in the number of locations across Scotland which have become desirable places to live, helping to foster the growth of new communities while at the same time stimulating local economies.”<\/p>\n
