Manchester City Council is in the final stages of selecting a winner for its \u00a3328m Town Hall and Albert Square restoration programme in November<\/h2>\n

According to construction intelligence specialist Glenigan<\/a>, Laing O\u2019Rourke<\/a> and Lendlease<\/a> are the final two firms in the running for the \u00a3328m restoration programme for Manchester\u2019s grade I-listed town hall.<\/p>\n

Manchester City Council<\/a> was initially hoping to shortlist up to five firms when the tender race started in February. However, papers from the council\u2019s scrutiny committee revealed the race for the \u00a3190m job of management contractor had been narrowed down to the pair.<\/p>\n

Final bids go in on 19 October, with a preferred bidder due to be appointed the following month.<\/p>\n

Restoration works will include refurbishing the Great Hall and its Ford Madox Brown murals, as well as external repairs to the roof, stonework and drains.<\/p>\n

The council said \u2018significant work\u2019 is needed to address the electrics, heating, ventilation and lifts in the building.<\/p>\n

The council expects more than 100 sub-contracts ranging from \u00a310,000 to \u00a310m to be procured by the chosen contractor from the first quarter of next year.<\/p>\n

The main construction works are scheduled to commence on site in autumn 2020.<\/p>\n

The client project team includes Mace who was appointed late last year as project manager and architect Purcell, which has created designs to refurbish the Grade I-listed landmark building.<\/p>\n
