A major redevelopment site in Maidenhead has received planning approval as part of a wider plan to regenerate the town<\/h2>\n

The approved plans are part of a larger proposal to regenerate Maidenhead which will see 229 new homes alongside a community space and food and caf\u00e9 outlets on the banks of Maidenhead waterways.<\/p>\n

The York Road site is part of the town\u2019s joint venture site and is the first of four which bring more affordable homes for residents and allow them an opportunity to purchase homes if they have lived or grown up in the borough.<\/p>\n

Councillor Simon Dudley, leader of the council and lead member for Maidenhead regeneration and Maidenhead, said: \u201cI am delighted that this planning application<\/a> has been considered and approved in principle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a major milestone for Maidenhead\u2019s regeneration and I look forward to seeing the site being transformed as we look to build a borough for everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted the council is able to deliver an additional 20 affordable homes<\/a> for shared ownership on this site meaning a total of 88 new affordable homes (38%) will be created in the heart of Maidenhead to give residents struggling to get onto the housing ladder a place to call home.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will provide much needed homes for our residents and create a much needed new neighbourhood in the town centre with a mixture of homes, retail outlets and community facilities to meet the needs of our residents now and in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malcolm Wood, Project Director at Countryside<\/a>, added: \u201cWe are delighted that the council has resolved to grant planning permission for this important site.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe look forward to continue to work closely with the council and the community as we deliver the much needed new homes, modern community facilities, cafes and restaurants as well as fabulous new public spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

The regeneration of York Road, the area to the south of the High Street, includes a \u00a31m investment to enhance and improve existing buildings and public realm, uniting areas of the town south of the library and creating new pedestrian-friendly and cycle connections from York Road to the Nicholsons Centre.<\/p>\n

Building work is expected to commence in Spring 2019 with the first homes expected to be completed by Autumn 2020.<\/p>\n

The site is part of the joint venture the council has with Countryside to develop four sites in the town \u2013 York Road, St Cloud\u2019s Way, West Street and Reform Road.<\/p>\n
