{"id":48441,"date":"2018-10-30T10:45:48","date_gmt":"2018-10-30T10:45:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=48441"},"modified":"2018-10-30T10:45:48","modified_gmt":"2018-10-30T10:45:48","slug":"citb-help-under-represented-into-construction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/citb-help-under-represented-into-construction\/48441\/","title":{"rendered":"CITB allocate \u00a35m to help under-represented groups into construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/\">Construction Industry Training Body (CITB)<\/a> has assigned \u00a35m to help under-represented groups into the construction industry<\/h2>\n<p>CITB\u2019s Pathways into Construction\u00a0will help link employers with people who traditionally don\u2019t enter construction, including the unemployed, women of all ages and full time learners who study construction but struggle to join the industry.<\/p>\n<p>The Pathways into Construction scheme is inviting bids from organisations\u00a0that work with one or more of the following five groups and want to help them into construction:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Young people who are not in education, training or work, particularly where existing networks are already in place<\/li>\n<li>The long-term unemployed<\/li>\n<li>Service Leavers who left the military at least 12 months ago<\/li>\n<li>Women wishing to join construction<\/li>\n<li>Full-time learners (focused on CBE Diploma students).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The fund is a direct intervention by CITB following extensive research into critical training and employment issues in the sector.<\/p>\n<p>Research topics included routes into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/report-reveals-growing-popularity-of-construction-careers\/36286\/\">construction careers<\/a>, work readiness, recruiting young people who are not in education, training or work, and pre-employment interventions, like work experience and gaining soft skills.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Cole, Head of Careers Strategy at CITB, said:\u00a0\u201cCITB\u2019s new commission, Pathways into Construction opens up a huge opportunity for the industry. With Brexit on the horizon, the fund will widen employers\u2019 pool of domestic talent, diversify the industry and increase opportunities for those on the margins of construction, improving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/balfour-beatty-social-mobility\/47122\/\">social mobility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy working with organisations that specialise in reaching these groups, the fund will facilitate the creation of sustainable partnerships and help the industry reach new talent that\u2019s previously been untapped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.insulation-actis.com\/\">Actis<\/a> regional director Jemma Harris says the CITB initiative, combined with an increase in offsite construction, will go some way towards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/addressing-the-housing-crisis-through-creative-reforms\/39567\/\">addressing the housing crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCreating a timber frame home is around 30% faster than building in brick and block. Timber frame walls, floors and roofs, complete with electrical wiring, plumbing and insulation are built in factories at relative speed. Indeed, some insulation systems such as Actis Hybrid, which consists of insulation, vapour control layer and breather membrane, can be installed effectively with ease by someone who has had minimal training which can even be delivered via an online tutorial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs these three in one systems are quicker to install than traditional insulation \u2013 many builders report savings of 25 to 50% \u2013 this in turn also frees up more man hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macegroup.com\/\">Mace Group<\/a> chief executive Mark Reynolds added: \u201cThis new funding will have a huge impact, targeting people who traditionally don\u2019t enter our industry.
