Property owner Turner Investments has gained outline planning for a new 32-storey skyscraper in Sheffield city centre<\/h2>\n

Developers now have up to three years to submit detailed plans to build a 32-storey building in the city centre, making it one of the tallest buildings in South Yorkshire.\u00a0Sheffield\u2019s current tallest building, St Paul\u2019s Tower, is 32 storeys high.<\/p>\n

Turner Investments earlier this year submitted the outline planning application for the redevelopment of Midcity House.<\/p>\n

Designed by Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson Architects<\/a>, the scheme is made up of three separate buildings \u2013 one rising to 32 floors, with a second tower of 13 floors and a third eight-storey building.<\/p>\n

The upper floors of the skyscraper would comprise private rental flats with the lower floors containing retail to provide\u00a0in combination with the new planned HSBC, building a gateway connecting The Moor to the heart of Sheffield City Centre.<\/p>\n

The existing four-storey building, which includes a mixture of shops, offices and flats, would be demolished.<\/p>\n

Sheffield City Council<\/a> has approved the outline plans, stating that detailed plans need to be submitted within three years and that no development can be carried out until then.<\/p>\n

In a planning statement submitted as part of the application, Developer Turner Investments said: \u201cThe proposed development will regenerate a significant site within the city centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe proposals will boost the supply of housing within the city and provide a mix of uses that will contribute to the future development aspirations for the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe proposed development, in combination with the new HSBC building, will provide an impressive gateway connecting The Moor to the heart of Sheffield City Centre in a way that respond positively to the existing and emerging context of the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe design and layout of the proposal has been developed to function well for the required use and adds to the overall quality of the area. The position and orientation of the building, the vehicular and pedestrian links have been designed to create an attractive environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe development has been designed to be legible and safe. The treatment of the perimeter of the site has been developed so not to encourage crime.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe layout, building and landscaping has been designed not to provide any hidden areas, dead ends or areas that do not benefit from natural surveillance and therefore could encourage antisocial behaviour.\u201d<\/p>\n
