James Brokenshire MP has today (15th November) welcomed new figures which revealed more than 220,000 new homes were built in the UK last year<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

This means the Government has recognised and delivered upon its target to produce more homes for the struggling housing market<\/a> and is on track to build 300,000 homes a year by the mid 2020s.<\/p>\n

This achievement represents the highest level of new homes delivered across England in all but one of the last 31 years and brings the total number of additional homes delivered since 2010 to 1.3 million.<\/p>\n

The increase is said to be a result of the Government’s reform of planning rules and more investment into the Affordable Homes<\/a> Programme.<\/p>\n

This year has also seen the Government lift the Housing Revenue Account borrowing cap – freeing up local councils to build a new generation of council housing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Communities Secretary Rt Hon James Brokenshire MP said: “Today\u2019s figures are great news and show another yearly increase in the number of new homes delivered, but we are determined to do more to keep us on track to deliver the homes communities need.<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s why we have set out an ambitious package of measures to deliver 300,000 homes a year by the mid-2020s. This includes over \u00a344 billion investment, rewriting the planning<\/a> rules and scrapping the borrowing cap so councils can deliver a new generation of council housing.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
