{"id":4971,"date":"2014-04-24T09:32:42","date_gmt":"2014-04-24T09:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.adjacentgovernment.co.uk\/?p=4971"},"modified":"2018-03-26T12:48:24","modified_gmt":"2018-03-26T11:48:24","slug":"168m-pothole-repair-fund-available-for-councils","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/168m-pothole-repair-fund-available-for-councils\/4971\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a3168m pothole repair fund available for councils"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Councils are being invited to bid for a share of a \u00a3168m Pothole Fund to repair local roads, making them safer and smoother for motorists, cyclists and other road users<\/h2>\n<p>Successful local authorities will sign a pothole pledge as a condition of the funding, setting out the number of potholes they will have repaired by March 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of this government\u2019s long-term plan is investing in our roads. Potholes are a menace for all road users which is why this extra funding is provided in addition to the \u00a310bn already committed for councils for road maintenance. I want councils to rise to the challenge and to reward councils who come up with new and better ways of making repairs quickly and effectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this new pothole fund councils will need to clearly set out the scale of the work they are doing, and local communities can have certainty that the money is being spent fixing potholes on their local roads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a3168 million fund, announced in the Chancellor\u2019s March Budget statement, is enough to fix more than 3 million potholes. It is in addition to the \u00a310 billion for local roads maintenance that the Department for Transport is already providing to councils in England between 2010 and 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/pothole-fund-2014-to-2015-application\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">guidance for the application process<\/span><\/a><\/span> for local authorities is now available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/\">GOV.UK<\/a> website. Councils have until 4pm on Thursday 22 May 2014 to submit a bid to the Department for Transport.
