London Stansted has appointed former Laing O\u2019Rourke project leader\u00a0Gerry Whyte as Delivery Director for the airport\u2019s multi-million pound transformation<\/h2>\n

In his new role, Gerry Whyte will work closely with Business Change Director, Paul Willis, and take responsibility for overseeing and delivering the \u00a3600m project which aims to significantly boost the airport experience for passengers and airlines.<\/p>\n

The transformation of London Stansted<\/a> is one of the largest airport projects currently underway in the UK. Plans include a new arrivals terminal which is due to open in 2020 and the reconfiguration of the existing terminal into a departures only facility. It also features a revamped retail and restaurant offer, more seating, as well as new car parks and airfield infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Gerry Whyte previously worked on some of the UK\u2019s largest construction developments ranging from Edinburgh St James, Liverpool One and Bluewater in Kent.<\/p>\n

He most recently held the post of Preconstruction Director at Laing O\u2019Rourke<\/a> leading the team through the preconstruction phase of the retail expansion of Brent Cross.<\/p>\n

Whyte took up his post on 3 December reporting to the airport\u2019s CEO, Ken O\u2019Toole.<\/p>\n

Gerry Whyte said: \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to joining the team at London Stansted. The transformation project is an exciting opportunity for me [to] play a meaningful part in the continued growth of the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ken O\u2019 Toole, CEO of London Stansted added: \u201c<\/strong>Gerry has a wealth of experience having worked in various high-profile construction projects<\/a> so I\u2019m delighted he\u2019s joining us during this exciting time for the airport.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe \u00a3600m transformation of the airport is really gathering momentum. We\u2019ve made fantastic progress so far, but it\u2019s next year when the project really starts to take-off with work beginning on our \u00a3130m arrivals terminal which we expect to open in August 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n
