{"id":50337,"date":"2018-12-19T09:48:14","date_gmt":"2018-12-19T09:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=50337"},"modified":"2018-12-19T10:14:32","modified_gmt":"2018-12-19T10:14:32","slug":"government-hackitt-recommendations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/government-hackitt-recommendations\/50337\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to enforce full Hackitt recommendations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Government has revealed it will enforce the full recommendations made by Dame Judith Hackitt in her review of building regulations and fire safety published following the Grenfell Tower fire<\/h2>\n<p>The government is creating a stronger and more effective regulatory framework to improve building safety.<\/p>\n<p>This will mean tougher sanctions for those who disregard residents\u2019 safety, more rigorous standards and guidelines for those undertaking building work, and a stronger voice for residents.<\/p>\n<p>Building a Safer Future, commits the government to a programme of reform over the coming years which will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take forward all of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/hackitt-review-calls-for-radical-rethink-of-regulations-but-no-ban-on-cladding\/41491\/\">recommendations in the Hackitt review<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Create a more effective regulatory and accountability framework to provide greater oversight of the industry<\/li>\n<li>Introduce clearer standards and guidance, including establishing a new Standards Committee to advise on construction product and system standards and regulations<\/li>\n<li>Put residents at the heart of the new system of building safety, empowering them with more effective routes for engagement and redress<\/li>\n<li>Help to create a culture change and a more responsible building industry, from design, through to construction and management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The government will establish the Joint Regulators\u2019 Group to trial elements of a new regulatory system ahead of any new proposed legislation. The group will bring existing regulatory bodies together to work with developers and building owners, as well as seeking input from residents and tenants, to develop and test new approaches that may later feature in legislation.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to setting out its plans to implement the changes called for by Dame Judith Hackitt, a full review of fire safety guidance within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/hackitt-building-regulations-not-fit-purpose\/37374\/\">building regulations<\/a> has also been launched.<\/p>\n<p>The government has issued a \u2018call for evidence\u2019 that will gather expert advice on the full range of fire safety issues to enable guidance to be revised.<\/p>\n<p>The government is also inviting views from residents and those who manage buildings on how to improve fire and structural safety.
