The International Organization for Standardization<\/a> (ISO) has released ISO\u00a019650-1 and ISO\u00a019650-2,\u00a0the new international standards for BIM<\/h2>\n

A new set of international\u00a0standards for BIM has recently been published to enable BIM implementation<\/a> to grow across projects and borders, benefitting the construction industry as a whole.<\/p>\n

The first two parts of\u00a0ISO\u00a019650<\/a>;\u00a0organisation and digitisation of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM)\u00a0\u2013 Information management using building information modelling, have just been published, providing a framework for managing information through collaborative working using BIM.<\/p>\n

J\u00f8ns Sj\u00f8gren, Chair of the ISO technical subcommittee that developed the standards, said they will enable more widespread use of BIM and therefore more efficient building and infrastructure projects<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sj\u00f8gren said: \u201cISO\u00a019650 was developed on the basis of the tried-and-tested British standard BS\u00a01192 and publicly available specification PAS\u00a01192-2, which have already been shown to help users save up to 22\u00a0% in construction costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cTaking this to an international level not only means more effective collaboration on global projects, but allows designers and contractors working on all kinds of building works to have clearer and more efficient information management.\u201d<\/p>\n

Future standards in the series include a Part\u00a03 on managing the operational phase of assets and a Part 5 dedicated to security-minded building information modelling<\/a>, digital built environments and smart asset management.<\/p>\n

The British Standards Institution (BSI)\u00a0previously revealed\u00a0that its UK-specific standards were being phased out in favour of international ones, and that those international standards would draw on the work that the British team had already done.<\/p>\n
