{"id":52520,"date":"2019-02-13T14:33:28","date_gmt":"2019-02-13T14:33:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=52520"},"modified":"2019-02-13T14:33:28","modified_gmt":"2019-02-13T14:33:28","slug":"2019-winners-building-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/2019-winners-building-performance\/52520\/","title":{"rendered":"2019 Winners: Building Performance Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>CIBSE Building Performance Awards saw an all-electric home that produces two-times more energy than it consumes win the Project of the Year\u00a0\u2013 Residential category<\/h2>\n<p>Designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bere.co.uk\/\">bere:architects<\/a>, Lark Rise incorporates a 12kW rooftop solar array which enables the home to import 97% less energy from the electrical grid than the average UK house.<\/p>\n<p>The judges said this scheme delivered \u201coutstanding measured building performance, energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Devised by the Chartered Institution of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cibse.org\/building-services\/what-is-building-services\">Building Services Engineers<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/cibse-building-performance-awards\/49189\/\">Building Performance Awards<\/a> recognise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/young-engineers-awards\/45978\/\">completed projects<\/a> which can demonstrate outstanding in-use performance, along with awards for design, facilities management and products for their contribution to delivering outstanding building performance.<\/p>\n<p>The Project of the Year\u00a0\u2013 International Award was won by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skyscrapercenter.com\/building\/the-ey-centre\/13290\">EY Centre<\/a> in Sydney, Australia. This 33-floor office tower developed and built by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mirvac.com\/\">Mirvac<\/a> delivers premium-grade office space whilst achieving demanding sustainability targets.<\/p>\n<p>The tower incorporates a high performance fa\u00e7ade and an energy efficient demand controlled ventilation system. The judges described the scheme as \u201can exemplary project\u201d and praised the \u201ctruly holistic approach to building performance and well being.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/helix\/urban\/\">The Urban Sciences Building<\/a>, Newcastle, engineered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.burohappold.com\/\">BuroHappold Engineering<\/a>, won the Project of the Year\u00a0\u2013 Public Use category. This building is home to the University of Newcastle\u2019s School of Computing and to researchers focused on the urban environment; it has been designed to function as a living laboratory to aid the
