{"id":52736,"date":"2019-02-18T14:58:40","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T14:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=52736"},"modified":"2019-02-18T14:58:40","modified_gmt":"2019-02-18T14:58:40","slug":"wimpole-welcome-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/wimpole-welcome-project\/52736\/","title":{"rendered":"Wimpole Welcome Project &#8211; with Mick George Earthworks"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/stakeholders\/mick-george-ltd\/29661\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mick George<\/a> discuss their earthworks on the Welcome Project at Wimpole Hall Estate, in Cambridgeshire, a popular National Trust location<\/h2>\n<p>A significant \u2018welcome project\u2019 is underway at Wimpole Hall Estate in Cambridgeshire to address the current shortcomings of the transportation, parking and arrival presented at the Grade 1 Registered Parkland.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-52739 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_0633-e1550501869600.jpg\" alt=\"Mick George Earthworks for the Welcome Project\" width=\"379\" height=\"238\" \/>Local construction specialists; Mick George Ltd are completing Earthworks on behalf of principal contractor Brooks and Wood Ltd, contributing towards the new car-park and visitor welcome building that are being created.<\/p>\n<p>The enabling works will supplement the new gateway which will bring the house, gardens, parkland, farm and wider landscape together, highlighting the rich heritage of the destination.<\/p>\n<h3>The need for the Welcome Project<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-52738 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Wimpole-e1550501764882.jpg\" alt=\"Wimpole Hall Estate\" width=\"373\" height=\"210\" \/>The stately home run by The National Trust opened its doors in the 1970s and today welcomes 300,000 visitors per year.<\/p>\n<p>Visitor numbers can reach up to 1,300 per day at peak times, meaning the existing car-park has been outgrown. The new parking areas will cater for up to 1800 vehicles, made up of 1400 permanent spaces located South-East of the Hall, outside of the registered park and will be accessed through Orwell Lane.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, 400 temporary grass spaces will be available. The former car-park will be returned to designated parkland landscape.<\/p>\n<p>The phased project is anticipated to be complete in Winter 2019, with the restoration of the current car-park finished around Spring 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Michael George, Managing Director of Mick George Ltd commented: \u2018\u2019The visitor numbers indicate just how popular the destination is, attracting people from near and far.
