{"id":54475,"date":"2019-03-25T11:16:20","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T11:16:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=54475"},"modified":"2019-03-25T16:13:35","modified_gmt":"2019-03-25T16:13:35","slug":"construction-reap-the-rewards-digitisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/construction-reap-the-rewards-digitisation\/54475\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction to reap the rewards of digitisation, CITB report shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A new report published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/\">CITB<\/a> (Construction Industry Training Board) shows that construction can reap major rewards from digital skills and technology, but only if it takes decisive action in the next five years<\/h2>\n<p>CITB&#8217;s report,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/about-citb\/construction-industry-research-reports\/search-our-construction-industry-research-reports\/Innovation-technology\/evolution-or-revolution\/\">Evolution or Revolution?<\/a>, looks at a range of scenarios for the pace of technological change in construction which will inform the forthcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionleadershipcouncil.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/CLC-Skills-Brexit-Group-Report-and-Recommendations-FINAL.pdf\">CLC Future Skills Plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The research finds that as a less-automated sector, construction stands to gain much more from modernisation than other parts of the economy. Embracing digital technology and cutting-edge skills can help address ongoing industry challenges like wafer-thin profit margins; the need to recruit, upskill and retain the future workforce; and improving health, safely and mental wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>The next five years will likely see technological adoption evolve, then speed up \u2013 but only when the right conditions are in place, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Building a shared definition of what digital construction means and the skills it requires<\/li>\n<li>Sharing best practice much more widely and,<\/li>\n<li>Liberating leaders and managers to take calculated risks and drive new approaches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/about-citb\/people-and-governance\/management-team\/the-management-team\/\">Stephen Radley<\/a>, CITB director of Strategy &amp; Policy said: \u201cConstruction has lagged behind other industries in harnessing the benefits of digitalisation but is now looking to catch up. New technology has enormous potential to make construction greener, safer and smarter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/citb-construction-digital-technology\/47961\/\">while boosting productivity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis research shows that while it may take two decades for the industry to achieve full technological adoption, the next five years are critical. Skills will be at the heart of these changes and we will work with government and industry to agree digital skills goals and a plan to meet them.
