{"id":54894,"date":"2019-04-02T12:46:59","date_gmt":"2019-04-02T11:46:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=54894"},"modified":"2019-07-09T12:09:15","modified_gmt":"2019-07-09T11:09:15","slug":"steel-framing-system-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/steel-framing-system-guide\/54894\/","title":{"rendered":"FIS and SCI to launch steel framing system guide"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefis.org\/\">FIS<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/steel-sci.com\/\">Steel Construction Institute<\/a> (SCI) is to launch the much-awaited Steel Framing System (SFS) guide on 16 May<\/h2>\n<p>The <em>Technical Report ED017 \u2013 Design and Installation of Light Steel External Wall Systems<\/em> guide will be launched with a consortium of industry partners.<\/p>\n<p>SFS is the lightweight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/green-steel-to-disrupt-building-approach\/42725\/\">steel frame<\/a> used to create the inner leaf of an external wall, it\u2019s been around for over 20 years but its benefits are just being realised, which is why so many projects are using it, but there are problems being created because of a lack of planning and knowledge. It\u2019s the first thing you see, but often the last thing that\u2019s designed in a building, and that\u2019s where the problem lies.<\/p>\n<p>A steel framing system is seen as non-load bearing, not holding the structure up but it is supporting cladding, internal linings, insulation and perhaps even services.
