Planning approval has been\u00a0granted for two new industrial developments at the site of a former Carlsberg\u00a0brewery depot in Wigan<\/h2>\n

Stoford Developments<\/a> and Oxenwood Real Estate<\/a> will transform the former Carlsberg depot in Golborne.<\/p>\n

The partners have been given the\u00a0go-ahead by Wigan Borough Council<\/a> to commence the refurbishment and extension\u00a0of an existing building to create\u00a0Stone Cross 136, a Grade A, 136,000 sq ft warehouse\u00a0facility.<\/p>\n

The scheme will also see the development of Stone Cross 72, a new-build,\u00a072,500 sq ft Grade A facility to the south\u00a0of the existing building.<\/p>\n

Work is set to start in June 2019\u00a0and is expected to reach completion before the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Tony Nash, director of Stoford\u00a0Developments<\/a>, said: \u201cThis scheme will provide a huge boost to the local jobs\u00a0market, delivering significant investment in\u00a0Wigan\u2019s economy and creating new\u00a0job opportunities.\u00a0Stone Cross is an established\u00a0and prime logistics location with an enviable line up of well-respected\u00a0tenants.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur development of Stone Cross 72 and\u00a0the refurbishment and extension\u00a0of Stone Cross 136 will offer potential occupiers a choice of two new high\u00a0specification industrial\/warehouse units with\u00a0outstanding connectivity in a\u00a0region that has a shortage of available stock. We are anticipating considerable\u00a0demand for these new units.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stewart Little,\u00a0co-founder of Oxenwood Real\u00a0Estate, added: \u201cThe purchase of Stone Cross in Wigan and our partnership\u00a0with Stoford is a natural\u00a0extension of our strategy within logistics as we look\u00a0to recycle the proceeds of successful sales undertaken last year. Within\u00a0markets where we see\u00a0strong occupational demand, we will build as well as buy\u00a0and continue to look for similar opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Carlsberg depot has\u00a0remained vacant since being closed in February 2018, after 20 years in\u00a0operation.<\/p>\n
