\"Queen<\/h2>\n

A\u00a0programme\u00a0of works\u00a0for an ambitious residential-led mixed use development on Queen Street in Aberdeen is to be\u00a0developed\u00a0this summer<\/h2>\n

Queen Street is\u00a0viewed as an opportunity to deliver transformational placemaking and high-quality urbanism to complete the civic quarter of the city.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0development\u00a0will\u00a0incorporate\u00a0key public services, cultural assets and high-quality public realm to support a core of contemporary urban living.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Queen Street vision, being developed by planning officers, was shared with Aberdeen City Council\u2019s<\/a> Capital Programme Committee.<\/p>\n

Committee convener\u00a0Councillor\u00a0Marie Boulton\u00a0said: \u201cPlacemaking is critical to the success of our city centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cQueen Street redevelopment will progress the themes identified in the City Centre Masterplan<\/a> and aims to create social infrastructure through city\u00a0centre\u00a0living, cultural and civic functions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese will be incorporated with accessible and efficient service delivery for the people of Aberdeen.<\/p>\n

\u201cService demand design, co-location and consolidation of the city\u2019s civic functions will ensure efficient delivery is a key driver in how we achieve this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Queen Street was described as an area where a\u00a0diverse range of architectural heritage surrounds a core that lacks cohesion.<\/p>\n

Historic assets like the Town House, Arts Centre and\u00a0Marischal\u00a0College create the drama and sense of place that\u00a0as part of the vision\u00a0needs to be balanced with quality public realm and complementary, but not competing, new architecture.<\/p>\n

A full\u00a0programme\u00a0and emerging workstreams are currently being scoped. These will be defined in the coming weeks and be reported to the appropriate council committees.<\/p>\n
