{"id":58143,"date":"2019-06-05T13:52:16","date_gmt":"2019-06-05T12:52:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=58143"},"modified":"2019-06-05T13:54:21","modified_gmt":"2019-06-05T12:54:21","slug":"gascoigne-estate-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/gascoigne-estate-plans\/58143\/","title":{"rendered":"Gascoigne estate to set new environmental standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Councillors have given the green light for plans to build over 500 homes on a new look eco-friendly Gascoigne estate at a Barking and Dagenham Council planning committee<\/h2>\n<p>The Gascoigne estate development, in the heart of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/urban-village-abbey-quays\/58049\/\">Barking town centre<\/a>, will feature eleven new buildings and 526 flats, of which 65% will be affordable rent or shared ownership, and 35% for private sale.<\/p>\n<p>Be First aims to set new environmental standards, by embracing designs by Scandinavian architects <a href=\"https:\/\/whitearkitekter.com\/\">White Arkitekter<\/a>, making the new look Gascoigne estate among the greenest residential areas of the town centre.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Darren Rodwell, leader of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbbd.gov.uk\/\">Barking and Dagenham Council<\/a>, said: \u201cThese plans for the new look Gascoigne Estate set a new gold standard for green living in the borough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey will also provide hundreds of much needed affordable homes for local people in a sustainable design which will make it among the greenest estates in the borough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The plans include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attractive, tree-lined public spaces, including an entirely new park \u2013 the 5,000 square metre Gascoigne Square \u2013 with public art and striking designs in a mixture of traditional and modern styles.<\/li>\n<li>Energy supplied by an array of rooftop photo-voltaic cells and connection to the district heating system, with energy savings expected to be 40% of CO2 emissions against the Building Regulations.<\/li>\n<li>Pedal power \u2013 Be First plans to install over 1,000 cycle parking spaces, recognising both the low car ownership levels in the area, the convenience of nearby public transport and ambition to encourage active travel in the borough.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jennie Coombs, head of affordable housing at Be First, said: \u201cThis latest phase of this exciting project will deliver vastly improved homes for new and existing tenants.
