Civil engineering company, Walters<\/a>, have been announced as the principal contractor for the development of the \u00a310m Brocastle Highway and Infrastructure works, near Bridgend<\/h2>\n

The economy minister, Ken Skates, confirmed that the Welsh Government had awarded the Brocastle Highway contract for the construction of key roads and services on the 116-acre strategic site to Walters.<\/p>\n

Work to prepare the site in Bridgend for employment space covering more than 70,000 sq m began in May and is scheduled to be completed by mid-2020. The construction work to prepare the site is being funded by \u00a310m from Welsh Government<\/a> including \u00a36m of EU funding.<\/p>\n

The Brocastle Highway site is allocated for development under Policy SP9 of the Bridgend Local Development Plan as a strategic employment site. The proposal includes business park development including offices, general industrial units and storage\/distribution units and is estimated to provide employment opportunities for up to 3,000 people.<\/p>\n

Economy minister Ken Skates, said: \u201cThis is one of several significant employment sites which the Welsh Government will be bringing forward to enable the development of modern business space, which is so badly needed to create jobs and support our economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the challenges we face in providing good-quality jobs is ensuring the right business space is available at the right location. Sites like this in Brocastle, which is ready for development and well-connected to local infrastructure<\/a>, are essential in meeting our ambitions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am pleased we\u2019ve now appointed contractors for the Brocastle site. They will undertake the vital work to provide the infrastructure and services necessary for the development of the site, providing valuable jobs in the construction phase and helping to make the site an attractive proposition for businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nick Rolfe, contracts director at Walters, added: \u201cWe are delighted that we have been appointed for this vital strategic project and are excited to be able to commence work in early May.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsing the Welsh Government Community Benefit Measurement Tool we aim to deliver a partnering approach with Welsh Government, the local community and our supply chain to create a long-term legacy of employment, opportunity, physical benefits and environmental excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n
