Gleeds<\/a> has been named as the NEC4 project manager on the Midland Metropolitan Hospital development in Smethwick, West Midlands<\/h2>\n

Appointed under the NHS Shared Business Services framework, Gleeds will be supported by Arup<\/a> and Stride Treglown<\/a> as works supervisors on the Midland Metropolitan Hospital.<\/p>\n

The new state-of-the-art facility will be the first new hospital<\/a> to open in the West Midlands since 2010. Its 670-bed urgent care centre will replace the accident and emergency departments at both Sandwell and City hospitals, while its treatment centre will be equipped with cutting edge diagnostic equipment and 15 operating theatres.<\/p>\n

Located on a 16.76-acre brownfield site on Grove Lane in Smethwick, the Midland Metropolitan Hospital is expected to cover around 80,600m2<\/sup> and will have the capacity to care for approximately 81,455 inpatients and 115,045 outpatients every year.<\/p>\n

Following a nine-month suspension, remedial works to prepare the site for completion and ensure it remains safe and secure resumed late last year and the facility is expected to be ready to open its doors to patients by 2022.<\/p>\n

Dave Pitman, healthcare engineering director at Arup, commented: \u201cOur team of engineers has UK-wide and international experience of hospital and healthcare facility design.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased to be able to contribute our expertise to a project that will make such a significant, positive impact for the residents of the Black Country and Birmingham.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniel van Luttmer of Stride Treglown, added: \u201cAs part of this experienced NEC team, our national specialist healthcare architects will locally support our client in successfully completing the partially-finished building to a high standard.\u201d<\/p>\n
