Worthing Council<\/a> is to work with Skanska<\/a>\/IKEA<\/a> housing developer BoKlok to deliver up to 162 affordable flat-pack homes<\/h2>\n

The BoKlok homes will be the first to be IKEA-style factory-built homes in the UK, after the previously developing around 11,000 homes in Sweden, Norway and Finland.<\/p>\n

According to Worthing council, the BoKlok homes will be priced so that home ownership \u201cis more accessible for local working families\u201d.<\/p>\n

In addition, the council will retain control of around 30% of the units, so that it can use them for social housing for those on the local waiting list.<\/p>\n

The council will also work in collaboration to develop a wider programme to deliver 500\u00a0new homes for Worthing residents.<\/p>\n

Councillor Kevin Jenkins, Worthing Borough Council\u2019s executive member for regeneration<\/a>, said: \u201cI very much welcome this innovative proposal from a groundbreaking international firm which could bring real benefits to hundreds of local families.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact these homes can be built quickly, to a high quality and meet top environmental standards makes this an extremely attractive proposition and I look forward to the Council working closely with BoKlok moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first homes could be occupied within two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About BoKlok Homes<\/h3>\n

The idea was born in the early 1990s when joint owners,\u00a0IKEA and Skanska came together to offer sustainable, quality,\u00a0low-cost home ownership.<\/p>\n

The first BoKlok homes were completed in 1997 and so far, more than 11,000 homes have been built throughout Sweden,\u00a0Finland, Denmark and Norway.<\/p>\n

BoKlok produces as much of the homes as it can, within the factory.\u00a0This allows them to get to work as soon as they arrive on a building\u00a0site.<\/p>\n

They can build small apartments in a single day, and the roof\u00a0goes on as quickly as possible to avoid weather damage.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
