{"id":60379,"date":"2019-07-19T14:28:20","date_gmt":"2019-07-19T13:28:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=60379"},"modified":"2019-07-19T14:28:20","modified_gmt":"2019-07-19T13:28:20","slug":"economic-plan-oxfordshire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/economic-plan-oxfordshire\/60379\/","title":{"rendered":"Economic plan to make Oxfordshire global innovation centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Oxfordshire Local Industrial Strategy, designed to cement the county\u2019s reputation as one of the foremost areas in the world to innovate, has been published<\/h2>\n<p>A new economic blueprint for Oxfordshire, designed to cement the county\u2019s reputation as one of the foremost areas in the world to innovate, has been unveiled today (19 July).<\/p>\n<p>Developed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfordshirelep.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership<\/a> in collaboration with local authorities, businesses, and central government, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/818888\/Oxfordshire_SINGLE_PAGE.pdf\">Oxfordshire Local Industrial Strategy<\/a>\u00a0sets out how the area will contribute towards the national Industrial Strategy\u2019s aim to raise productivity levels and to create high-quality, well-paid jobs across the country.<\/p>\n<p>At its heart, the new Local Industrial Strategy has a clear ambition to help Oxfordshire become a top-three global innovation hub by 2040, including through enhanced support for innovative scale-up businesses, transforming and expanding science and technology parks, and the potential creation of new Global Business District as part of Oxford Station quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The strategy also outlines measures to increase social mobility and proposals to establish an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eship.ox.ac.uk\/oxford-hub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oxfordshire Entrepreneurship Hub<\/a> to support students and young people develop new business ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Nigel Tipple, chief executive of the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: \u201cThe ambition for the Oxfordshire Local Industrial Strategy is to position the county as one of the top-three innovation ecosystems anywhere in the world, highlighting our world-leading science and technology strengths and \u2013 in-turn \u2013 to be a pioneer for the UK and our emerging transformative technologies.<\/p>\n<p>To coincide with the launch of the Local Industrial Strategies, Business Minister Lord Henley met representatives from across the Oxford-Cambridge Arc today to discuss how these local economic strategies are helping to deliver the government\u2019s Industrial Strategy ambitions.<\/p>\n<p>With an existing international brand that draws talent from across the globe, Oxfordshire will aim to become one of the top three global innovation hubs by 2040, by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supporting the transformation of science and technology parks, and the potential creation of a new Global Business District as part of Oxford Station quarter<\/li>\n<li>Providing enhanced support for scale-ups, building on the high number of university spin-outs generated in this knowledge-led economy<\/li>\n<li>Building on its existing Research &amp; Development assets \u2013 as home to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/morgan-sindall-bags-framework\/60346\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">world-leading university<\/a>, and with dynamic and creative residential communities, science and technology parks<\/li>\n<li>Working with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/intellectual-property-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intellectual Property Office<\/a> to launch a pilot programme to accelerate IP and commercialisation to help \u2018breakthrough businesses\u2019 capture the value of their IP across the business cycle<\/li>\n<li>Improving social mobility for young people, working with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.careersandenterprise.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Careers &amp;
