{"id":60715,"date":"2019-07-25T12:48:04","date_gmt":"2019-07-25T11:48:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=60715"},"modified":"2019-07-25T12:48:04","modified_gmt":"2019-07-25T11:48:04","slug":"bristols-central-wards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/bristols-central-wards\/60715\/","title":{"rendered":"Licensing scheme to improve Bristol\u2019s rental housing standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">An initiative that aims to improve housing and management standards for multiple occupancy, privately rented properties in 12 of Bristol\u2019s central wards started this week<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This scheme <\/span><span class=\"s1\"> it is set to upgrade the overall management and property conditions of an estimated 4200 shared properties in Bristol&#8217;s central wards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The scheme proposes the proactive inspection of privately rented houses in multiple occupation. This will make a significant impact on improving their management and better the conditions of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/build-to-rent-market-2\/59351\/\">rented homes<\/a> to benefit current and future tenants. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Councillor Paul Smith, cabinet member for housing said: \u201cDiscretionary licensing schemes play a very important part in achieving the key housing objectives within the \u2018One City Plan\u2019. We will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/guidance-authorities-rogue-landlords\/55296\/\">work with landlords<\/a> to create better property standards and conditions for tenants in the private rented sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;The \u2018Additional Licensing\u2019 scheme will improve the living standards of tenants because it gives us the opportunity to tackle inadequate housing conditions through robust engagement with landlords. With an increasing amount of residents renting, this initiative will further our ambition to do whatever it takes to better living conditions for our citizens and provide strong protection for vulnerable tenants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;We at the council are confident that the scheme will herald positive results. The council believes that this area based approach will improve the lives of Bristol\u2019s tenants and enhance private housing conditions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The council will be working alongside city partners such as the police to ensure that non-housing issues can be identified early and resolved effectively. The aim is to provide a collective response to both the areas\u2019 private residential concerns and any additional non-housing issues, particularly crime and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/local-housing-allowance-homelessness\/59671\/\">homelessness<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The 12 wards in question:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Central, Cotham, Clifton, Clifton Down, Hotwells &amp;
