{"id":61060,"date":"2019-07-31T10:07:07","date_gmt":"2019-07-31T09:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=61060"},"modified":"2019-07-31T10:07:07","modified_gmt":"2019-07-31T09:07:07","slug":"wates-gender-balance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/wates-gender-balance\/61060\/","title":{"rendered":"Wates commits to improve gender balance in the industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Wates Group has signalled its intention to dramatically improve the gender balance at the workforce at all levels with their plan &#8216;WatesTogether&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The WatesTogether plan aims for women to account for 40% of roles by 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The target is one of a series of milestones outlined in the company\u2019s new diversity and inclusion plan: WatesTogether, a long-term blueprint for creating a business where everyone is welcomed, included and connected. These include (by 2025): <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Having a workforce which is more reflective of society, with 60% men, 40% women, 20% BAME, 3% with a disability and 5% LGBTQ+ across all levels of the business<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">50% of the Group\u2019s early careers intake to be female<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">5% of new recruits will be career returners <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">To do this, Wates will carry out a number of activities including launching an inclusive leadership programme, developing a mixed mentoring programme and reviewing its recruitment policies and processes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In addition, the plan commits the company to overhauling its parental leave and flexible working policies, improving the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/balfour-beatty-pay-gap\/54921\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gender pay gap<\/a> and collaborating across industry to help drive sector-wide change, for example through a new industry-wide inclusion working group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The release of the plan coincides with the announcement of the appointment of Nikunj Upadhyay as Group Head of Diversity and Inclusion. Nikunj, who joins Wates on 30 September from Barclays, where she is Vice President, D&amp;I, will lead the adoption of the plan, reporting to Group HR director, Paul Rowan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wates.co.uk\/who-we-are\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wates<\/a> chief executive, David Allen, said:\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe\u2019re delighted to welcome Nikunj Upadhyay to our Leadership team to lead this important work. Through her experience at Barclays, and earlier at HSBC and Accenture, Nikunj has overseen the implementation of initiatives focused on increasing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/diversity-planning-industry\/53656\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">representation of women<\/a> and engagement of under-represented groups, as well as programmes to promote flexible working. We look forward to welcoming her as we continue our journey to becoming a more inclusive and better business.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Nikunj Upadhyay said: \u201cFor me, an inclusive workplace is where we feel our individuality is cherished and we can be confident to bring our whole self to work.
