North Lincolnshire Council<\/a> has given the go-ahead for 2,500 new homes, creating six new waterside villages as part of the \u00a31.2bn Lincolnshire Lakes scheme<\/h2>\n

The Lincolnshire Lakes scheme \u2013 worth an estimated \u00a31.2bn \u2013 will transform the western edge of Scunthorpe, creating six new waterside villages.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, as part of the Lincolnshire Lakes development, plans were approved for a new roundabout on the M181. This new \u00a313.5m junction would allow direct access from new and existing settlements to the motorway network, and act as a bypass for Burringham village.<\/p>\n

Along the banks of the River Trent to the west of the Lincolnshire Lakes site, a \u00a313.3m Government-funded flood defence scheme is nearing completion, to ensure existing villages are adequately protected, and to prepare for the Lincolnshire Lakes development.<\/p>\n

Councillor Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: \u201cThis development has been nearly twenty years in the making and this is a milestone moment for confidence in housing development in North Lincolnshire<\/a>. The scheme has been delayed for the past few years until we were able to keep our promises to local residents to put the right infrastructure in place first.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout the planning for this visionary scheme, we\u2019ve been clear that we must get the infrastructure right in order to ensure that Lincolnshire Lakes develops sustainably over the next 20 years. With the government-funded flood defence scheme<\/a> nearing completion on the Trent, and the green light earlier this year for the new motorway junction, the pieces are falling into place.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow planning permission is in place, the Lincolnshire Lakes scheme can really start. Children growing up across the region today will have the opportunity to start their families in lakeside communities in North Lincolnshire.\u201d<\/p>\n
