{"id":62619,"date":"2019-09-04T11:15:16","date_gmt":"2019-09-04T10:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=62619"},"modified":"2019-09-04T11:15:16","modified_gmt":"2019-09-04T10:15:16","slug":"cscs-card-exemption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/cscs-card-exemption\/62619\/","title":{"rendered":"CSCS ends exemption to HSE test requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) has ended an exemption that applicants could previously use to get a CSCS card without passing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Construction Industry Training Board\u2019s<\/a> (CITB) Health, safety and environment test<\/h2>\n<p>In most cases, to get a CSCS card, an applicant must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hold a recognised construction related qualification (usually an NVQ or SVQ)<\/li>\n<li>Pass the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/courses-and-qualifications\/hse-test-and-cards\/about-hse-test\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CITB Health, safety and environment test<\/a> within the last 2 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, before the 2nd September, applicants who had achieved an SVQ or NVQ within the last 2 years did not have to pass the CITB Health, safety and environment test.<\/p>\n<p>This exemption has now been ended, regardless of when they obtained their NVQ or SVQ. If applicants have not passed the test, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/cscs-eliminate-site-visitor-cards\/42229\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">card will not be issued<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>CSCS\u2019s director of operations Gordon Jenkins said: \u201cAccepting the recent completion of an SVQ or NVQ as an exemption to taking the CITB Health, safety and environment test is no longer in step with the wishes of the industry and as such the exemption will be withdrawn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gordon Jenkins continued \u201cCSCS, together with our 35 partner card schemes, are bound by the requirements of the Industrial Strategy for Construction.
