{"id":63360,"date":"2019-09-18T08:19:30","date_gmt":"2019-09-18T07:19:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=63360"},"modified":"2019-09-18T08:19:30","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T07:19:30","slug":"brownfield-land-west-midlands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/brownfield-land-west-midlands\/63360\/","title":{"rendered":"4,000 new homes to be built on brownfield land across West Midlands"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>More than 4,000 new homes are set to be built on brownfield land across the West Midlands thanks to a deal between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmca.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Midlands Combined Authority<\/a> (WMCA) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lovell.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lovell Partnerships<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The partnership, which was revealed by Mayor Andy Street, will bring together public and private sector skills and investment to supercharge the unlocking of brownfield land for development, helping to ease <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/grass-greener-brownfield-site\/61996\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pressure on the Green Belt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 4,000 new homes will be constructed over the next eight years boosting the region\u2019s efforts to build 215,000 new homes by 2031 \u2013 the amount needed to meet future housing and economic demand. The West Midlands is already building more homes than anywhere else outside of London, having constructed more than 14,500 in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, said: \u201cWe have earmarked hundreds of millions of pounds to help transform our brownfield land into thriving new communities that offer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/west-midlands-affordable-homes\/49590\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">affordable, well-designed homes<\/a> for local people, and premises for firms creating worthwhile jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe West Midlands is undergoing a huge resurgence, with a thriving economy and more and more people looking to take advantage of all our region has to offer. However, that success brings with it several challenges, not least the need to build more homes and commercial premises to keep up with the demand of residents and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis ground-breaking partnership with Lovell will help us to address these challenges by bringing together their expertise with the WMCA\u2019s powers and resources to build more than 4,000 homes on former industrial land.
