{"id":65662,"date":"2019-10-22T09:57:02","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T08:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=65662"},"modified":"2021-12-17T12:55:02","modified_gmt":"2021-12-17T12:55:02","slug":"digital-tools-in-construction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/construction-technology-news\/digital-tools-in-construction\/65662\/","title":{"rendered":"The price: A key barrier to digital transformation in construction"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<h2>The heavy upfront price that companies have to pay for a new digital solution is a big factor in the slow adaptation of digital tools in the construction industry<\/h2>\r\n<p>Everywhere you look, there is something about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/digital-diaries-construction\/56318\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">benefits and challenges to digitalisation in construction.<\/a> Many conferences, trade shows, articles and webinars all trying to hit the message home for the urgent need for change.<\/p>\r\n<p>However, people in the industry are still very slow and reluctant to adapt to new technology. Why is that? Here are some of the reasons experts believe causes this slow adaptation.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>It is because tools are not integrated so data is duplicated (create more work).<\/li>\r\n<li>Digital tools are not simple enough to be easily adapted.<\/li>\r\n<li>There is no standardisation so people have to learn what \u201cblue\u201d means in every tool.<\/li>\r\n<li>Construction people are too risk-averse.<\/li>\r\n<li>Companies don\u2019t have the human resources to implement a digital strategy.<\/li>\r\n<li>Construction workers just don\u2019t want to use digital tools.<\/li>\r\n<li>There is no clear ROI on digital tools, except the commonly used \u201csave time\u201d.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Even though all of these are very strong points, there is one point that I believe is a key barrier. That is the mindset that all of us has about the price. The notion of \u201cprice\u201d, in my opinion, is the biggest barrier to digitalisation in construction.<\/p>\r\n<p>I took some time to study the questions that prospects normally ask us about all our products and the number one first questions are always what is the price. The vast majority of the time, the person asking for the price doesn\u2019t really know what value that will be getting by using an app like ours.<\/p>\r\n<p>We have products that range from \u00a38 per month to \u00a3100+ per month and the answer by the user is always the same: \u201cThat is pretty expensive\u201d \u2013 even for \u00a38. But expensive compared to what? Netflix? KFC? Microsoft Office?
