The City of York Council<\/a> has contracted Wates Group<\/a> to build 140 new homes on Lowfield Green and local residents are invited to meet them<\/h2>\n

Wates will build the 140 high-quality new homes on Lowfield Green for current and future generations. This is the first of eight sites included in City of York<\/a> Council’s biggest housebuilding programme since the 1970s.<\/p>\n

Neighbours of the site have been invited to meet the Wates team who will answer questions regarding the development.<\/p>\n

The new homes on Lowfield Green will have over an acre of open, public space for people to enjoy and meet their neighbours. Around it starter and family homes will be built, along with wheelchair-accessible bungalows and apartments for over-55s.<\/p>\n

40% of the homes will be affordable. Half will be council housing and the other half will be for shared ownership.<\/p>\n

In addition, the site includes six self-build plots with services provided and a community build by YorSpace, providing 19 households the chance to have their own home.<\/p>\n

Denise Craghill, executive member for housing and safer neighbourhoods for City of York Council, said: “We are committed to building high-quality homes at Lowfield Green and are delighted that we have secured Wates to build them.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir reputation for well-built homes matches our ambition as does their commitment to sustainable construction<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Meanwhile, everyone is warmly invited to come along and meet Wates and the team creating new homes on 22 October, 3:30-7pm at Acomb Parish Hall.”<\/p>\n

David Wingfield, business unit director of Wates Construction, added: “Our growing portfolio in York is a testament to our reputation as a trusted and expert contractor across a diverse range of sectors and to our close network of supply chain partners in the city and the wider North Yorkshire.<\/p>\n

“Our team has worked closely with City of York Council to scope the Lowfield Green construction programme and ensure that this important new development is delivered efficiently and to an uncompromised standard for the people of York.”<\/p>\n

Throughout construction, Wates is providing opportunities for employment and training for local people, including work placements, apprenticeships and career guidance for local students.<\/p>\n

The project team includes cost and project management by Turner & Townsend, architecture, landscape architecture, structural engineering and acoustics by BDP, and civic engineering and highways engineering by Curtins<\/a>.<\/p>\n
