{"id":67005,"date":"2019-11-08T09:27:46","date_gmt":"2019-11-08T09:27:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=67005"},"modified":"2019-11-08T09:27:46","modified_gmt":"2019-11-08T09:27:46","slug":"belfast-transport-hub-translink","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/belfast-transport-hub-translink\/67005\/","title":{"rendered":"Graham to start work on new Belfast Transport Hub"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Belfast Transport Hub took a step closer to construction today as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.graham.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graham<\/a> was announced as the contractor to deliver essential early engineering works to prepare the site ready for construction<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This multi-million pound transport led regeneration project, a NI Executive Flagship project, will see the transformation of the 8-hectare city centre site, delivering a modern, high quality integrated transport hub to enhance local and international connectivity with bus, coach and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/replacement-footbridge-south-belfast\/63875\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rail links across Northern Ireland<\/a> and beyond. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It will be a key driver of social, economic and environmental wellbeing for Belfast and Northern Ireland and will be at the heart of an exciting new city neighbourhood called \u2018Weavers Cross\u2019 with imaginative mixed-use development proposals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.translink-group.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Translink Group<\/a> chief executive, Chris Conway, said: \u201cToday\u2019s announcement marks an important milestone as we continue to move towards the start of construction. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;These site preparation works will take around 18 months to complete and include site clearance, utility diversions, ecology surveys, ground remediation, watercourse and drainage activities. This will ensure the site is ready for the main build phase in 2021 and that construction teams and materials are able to enter and begin work safely and efficiently.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe are looking forward to working with Graham to start the delivery of this exciting world-class facility. These initial works will see up to 100 jobs generated with potential for up to 400 from the entire scheme, local employment opportunities will be developed through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.belfastcity.gov.uk\/business\/businessinformation\/construction-employment-academy.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Belfast City Council\u2019s Construction Employment Academy<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe have built up strong links and have widespread support across the local community, businesses, city stakeholders and political parties for this scheme. We will continue to engage with them in partnership with our contractor as we make progress.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe have seen strong passenger growth in recent years, now carrying a record 84.5m passenger journeys.
