Pat Hayes, managing director for <a href=\"http:\/\/befirst.london\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Be First<\/a>, said: \u201cRedeveloping the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/gascoigne-estate-plans\/58143\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gascoigne Estate<\/a> is a major step in the regeneration of the borough. This decision paves the way for more quality homes local people can afford.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>The new development in Abbey Road will include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>201 new homes \u2013 89 one-bedroom, 88 two-bedroom, and 24 three-bedroom apartments<\/li>\n<li>new children\u2019s play area<\/li>\n<li>electric car charging points and over 360 new cycling parking spaces, and<\/li>\n<li>40% reduction in carbon emissions thanks to a connection to the forthcoming Barking Town Centre District Heating Network and solar panels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Leading national developer, Wates Residential, has been appointed to undertake the work, and their team has recently moved onto the site to prepare for the build.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Nicholls, managing director for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wates.co.uk\/services\/residential-developments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wates Residential<\/a>, said: \u201cToday\u2019s decision marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Gascoigne Estate in the delivery of much needed high quality new homes for local people, because we believe that everyone deserves a great place to live.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are delighted to be working in partnership with Be First to help realise this vision and also look forward to working with the local community to deliver education, training and skills opportunities as we commence work on-site.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Linda Thiel, of <a href=\"https:\/\/whitearkitekter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">White Arkitekter<\/a>, architects of Phase 2 of Gascoigne East and Phase 1 of Gascoigne West and now overall \u2018Design Guardian\u2019 for Gascoigne West, added: \u201cWe\u2019re very proud of being involved in this important project.<\/p>\n<p>At White Arkitekter we take our responsibility of planning sustainable, equitable cities very seriously.
