{"id":67927,"date":"2019-11-22T10:51:18","date_gmt":"2019-11-22T10:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=67927"},"modified":"2019-11-22T10:51:18","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T10:51:18","slug":"care-home-plans-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/care-home-plans-progress\/67927\/","title":{"rendered":"Kingston\u2019s \u00a313.4m dementia care home plans progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingston.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kingston Council<\/a> are another step closer to beginning work on the new 80-bed dementia home, with the demolition of the existing site expected to begin in January 2020<\/h2>\n<p>In March 2018 Kingston Council gave the green light for the new \u00a313.4m dementia home in Brown\u2019s Road, Surbiton to be built.<\/p>\n<p>Following further consultation, in June 2019 the council\u2019s\u00a0Development and Control Committee granted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/study-reveals-the-places-to-gain-planning-permission\/40355\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">planning permission<\/a> to build the home and this month the Children&#8217;s and Adults&#8217; Care and Education Committee authorised the implementation of the construction stage.<\/p>\n<p>With an ageing population and increased demand for health and social care services in the borough, the new dementia home will help provide care for older people with dementia in Kingston, as well as generate income for the council from those residents who are able to fund their own care.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Taylor, director of Adult Social Services at Kingston Council, said: \u201cKingston Council is committed to ensuring that there is high-quality care available for older residents who need additional support.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is estimated that more than 1,500 residents in the borough are living with dementia and this figure is expected to rise to more than 2,100 people by 2027.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe council currently relies on the private sector market to provide most of the bed-based care and this process is becoming increasingly expensive.
