Siemens<\/a> is helping the Hall\u00e9 orchestra\u2019s new \u00a34.3m St Peter\u2019s extension cut costs by integrating a digital solution to reduce energy use by 35%<\/h2>\n

The integrated digital solution for the \u00a34.3m St Peter\u2019s extension will cut energy use by 35%.<\/p>\n

The new \u00a34.3m three-storey extension, known as The Oglesby Centre, includes sensors which monitor and automatically adjust the temperature, air quality<\/a> and lighting to achieve optimal room conditions.<\/p>\n

This will lower energy consumption in every room in the new building to significantly reduce operating costs by up to 35% and lower CO2 emissions from the building.<\/p>\n

Green Leaf controls to save energy<\/h3>\n

Siemens\u2019 innovative Green Leaf controls notify the room user of unnecessary energy consumption to encourage them to actively save energy.<\/p>\n

The system\u2019s ability to automatically regulate temperature and humidity has the added benefit of providing well-balanced acoustics for performers and the audience.<\/p>\n

As part of the project, Siemens has installed its fire monitoring device, Cerberus Pro, and a new CCTV security system.<\/p>\n

These systems are linked into Siemens\u2019 digital building management system, Desigo, an intuitive platform that can be used to keep the building and its users safe and secure.<\/p>\n

The Desigo also future proofs the historic building by using open communication protocols which can connect to third-party devices and is Internet of Things<\/a> (IoT)-ready so it can connect to new smart devices in the future.<\/p>\n

Robin Phillips, Siemens Manchester site director, said: \u201cFor more than 20 years Siemens and the Hall\u00e9 have worked closely together to find new and innovative ways of partnering on projects that present the links between engineering and music.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith tens of thousands of people visiting the venue each year, the Hall\u00e9 needed an intelligent system which responds to changes in the building in real-time and is easy to control.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe technology we have installed allows the building to talk, tell us how it feels, if it is under stress, what it is missing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt also functions discreetly behind the scenes, without compromising the performer or audience experience or the integrity of the design.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been fantastic to be able to bring together our experts in our Building Technologies and Smart Infrastructure division to create a safe, comfortable and highly energy efficient building<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

John Summers, chief executive of the Hall\u00e9, added: \u201cThe sustainability and energy efficiency of this magnificent new facility was also at the heart of our design.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking with Siemens we have been able to find state-of-the-art solutions which will support Hall\u00e9\u2019s targets for energy efficiency, comfort, safety and security.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy reducing the building\u2019s energy use, we can play our part in meeting the challenge of climate change while reducing operating costs, so more resources can be dedicated to nurturing future generations of musical talent.”<\/p>\n

Siemens installed the energy use technology ahead of the buildings official opening.<\/p>\n
