ISG<\/a> has won the \u00a389m project to deliver the Cardiff Transport Interchange building for Rightacres<\/a> at its flagship Central Square scheme<\/h2>\n

The Cardiff Transport Interchange building will be ISG\u2019s largest UK construction project of 2019 and takes the contractor\u2019s tally of work awarded at Central Square past \u00a3200m.<\/p>\n

The project is being funded by Legal & General<\/a> and designed by Holder Mathias Architects<\/a>.<\/p>\n

500,000 sq ft of new space will be delivered as part of the building at Cardiff Transport Interchange. The space will include the 14-bay bus interchange with a covered concourse, 318 apartments for the private rented sector<\/a> and around 90,000 sq ft of modern open-plan, quality CAT A office space.<\/p>\n

Offsite construction<\/h3>\n

The mixed-use project is one of the largest developments undertaken in the city centre. It embraces the construction drive toward more efficient practices and modern methods of construction, utilising off-site manufactured bathroom pods<\/a> and a slip form system to accelerate the construction of the concrete cores of the new building.<\/p>\n

ISG will use an enclosed four-storey platform to sequentially form the reinforced concrete frame and immediately weatherproof each floor as the platform rises up the tower.<\/p>\n

Kevin McElroy, ISG project director, said: \u201cThe Cardiff Interchange has been one of the most highly anticipated developments of recent years and this announcement reflects real collaboration and vision from all project stakeholders to create a mixed-use scheme that delivers for our city.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot only will this dramatically improve connectivity for businesses, residents and visitors to Cardiff, but alongside the iconic BBC Wales headquarters, will transform this strategic gateway site.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jason Hyett, Rightacres project director, commented: \u201cThe signing of the build contract marks a great landmark in the project\u2019s timeline and is thanks to the input of a great number of people.<\/p>\n
