{"id":68912,"date":"2019-12-09T09:17:34","date_gmt":"2019-12-09T09:17:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=68912"},"modified":"2024-06-28T11:15:25","modified_gmt":"2024-06-28T10:15:25","slug":"aec-technology-lab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/bim-news\/aec-technology-lab\/68912\/","title":{"rendered":"Edinburgh Napier and Trimble to establish AEC Technology Lab"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.napier.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edinburgh Napier University<\/a> has received equipment and software from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trimble.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trimble <\/a>to establish a state-of-the-art Technology Lab for architecture, engineering and construction (AEC)<\/h2>\n<p>The Technology Lab for architecture, engineering and construction aims to expand the Edinburgh Napier University\u2019s leadership in training and research in 3D building design, digital fabrication and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/sustainable-construction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainable built environment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Partnering with Trimble allows Edinburgh Napier to fully integrate the technological tools that are rapidly transforming how buildings and living environments are designed and constructed. The lab will equip students with knowledge of the latest thinking in how to plan, design, build and manage engineering projects.<\/p>\n<p>The Technology Lab for architecture, engineering and construction will provide students enrolled in Edinburgh Napier\u2019s School of Engineering &amp; the Built Environment, including architectural technology, civil engineering and project management programmes, with hands-on experience with Trimble solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Applications of these solutions range from scanning buildings or sites, design and 3D printing of architectural building models and digital fabrication to implementing construction cost estimating and scheduling to improve productivity and reduce costs.<\/p>\n<p>Allyson McDuffie, director of education &amp;
