{"id":69260,"date":"2019-12-16T12:40:02","date_gmt":"2019-12-16T12:40:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=69260"},"modified":"2021-02-22T14:22:02","modified_gmt":"2021-02-22T14:22:02","slug":"skanska-zayed-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/skanska-zayed-centre\/69260\/","title":{"rendered":"Skanska completes Zayed Centre for Great Ormond Street"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skanska.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Skanska<\/a> has completed the construction of The Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gosh.nhs.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Great Ormond Street Hospital Children\u2019s Charity<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>This is Skanska\u2019s second scheme at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), supporting the children\u2019s hospital&#8217;s vision of driving forward new treatments and cures.<\/p>\n<p>Sanska\u2019s responsibilities included designing, building and fitting-out the Zayed Centre, which will bring together pioneering research and clinical care under one roof to drive forward new treatments and cures for children with rare and complex diseases. The building is also home to new outpatient facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The Zayed Centre for Research is a partnership between Great Ormond Street Hospital, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University College London<\/a> (UCL) and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children\u2019s Charity.<\/p>\n<h3>The building includes:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>4,200m<sup>3<\/sup> concrete to build the frame, weighing 10,500 tonnes 5,000 metres of drywall partitions<\/li>\n<li>13,000 m sq of floor space<\/li>\n<li>2,500 m sq of glass within the external walls<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/breeam-introduce-pre-approval\/54121\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BREEAM<\/a> sustainability rating of Excellent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>In addition:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>500 researchers, clinicians and allied health professionals from GOSH, ICH, and from UCL\u2019s Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences will work in the facilities<\/li>\n<li>200 patients a day will be seen in the Centre as outpatients<\/li>\n<li>The Centre features more than 160 lab bench positions<\/li>\n<li>The Centre houses 21 consultation rooms and eight clinical investigation rooms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Graham Ashley, construction director for Skanska, said: \u201cWe are so proud to be involved in the creation of this important facility. Bringing patients, clinicians and scientists together in one place means that pioneering research into paediatric rare diseases can advance further and faster.
