The City of London saw the steepest fall in new affordable homes of any <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/794794\/20181010_JSHAO-18-LOCAL_AUTHORITIES_IN_LONDON.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London local authority<\/a>, recording a 64.1% drop.<\/p>\n<p>Hammersmith &amp; Fulham\u00a0and\u00a0Redbridge\u00a0were the worst performing boroughs, with the number of new affordable homes created between 2010\/11 and 2018\/19 falling\u00a061.6%\u00a0on a like-for-like basis.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0Sutton, the drop has been\u00a045.4%,\u00a0Richmond upon Thames\u00a0saw a\u00a039.5%\u00a0decline and\u00a0Haringey\u00a0has fallen\u00a034.9%.<\/p>\n<p>Six London local authorities, including the\u00a0City of London, have seen affordable homes fall by more than a\u00a0third\u00a0when compared with the noughties.<\/p>\n<p>Affordable housing has fallen by 1.2%\u00a0on a like for like basis, according to the latest government figures released by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/ministry-of-housing-communities-and-local-government\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government<\/a> (MHCLG).<\/p>\n<p>Consistency remains a huge problem for London, with a third of areas failing to maintain the same rate of building last year that they had achieved in the previous 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>Analysis of the latest figures shows that last year Merton was the only authority where the supply of new affordable homes fell by more than 50% in 12 months. The borough created 60.8% fewer affordable homes in 2018\/19 year on year while in Enfield, the fall was 46.3% and in Haringey the decline was 42.3%.<\/p>\n<p>The latest figures for 2018\/19 show that the 9,205 affordable homes created were only just over half of the 18,120 created at the capital\u2019s peak in 2014\/15.<\/p>\n<p>According to the London Assembly, there have never been enough affordable homes built in the capital.
