{"id":70043,"date":"2020-01-14T11:38:40","date_gmt":"2020-01-14T11:38:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=70043"},"modified":"2024-02-19T14:34:15","modified_gmt":"2024-02-19T14:34:15","slug":"new-station-at-bow-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/new-station-at-bow-street\/70043\/","title":{"rendered":"Transport for Wales begins work on new station at Bow Street"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/tfw.wales\/projects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Transport for Wales<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Network Rail<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ceredigion.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ceredigion County Council<\/a> have begun work on the new \u00a38m Bow Street station in Ceredigion, opening to passengers in 2020<\/h2>\n<p>Part-funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-transport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department for Transport<\/a> via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkrail.co.uk\/communities\/passengers\/station-improvements\/new-stations-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Stations Fund<\/a>, the new station will provide a link to the national rail network for the community of Bow Street for the first time since the former station was closed in 1965.<\/p>\n<h3>Bow Street station improvement vision<\/h3>\n<p>The new Bow Street station will include park and ride facilities, cycle storage and a multi-modal transport interchange.<\/p>\n<p>This will transform transport for local residents, providing links for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/new-jobs-transport-for-wales\/60079\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">employment and educational opportunities<\/a>. Through providing alterative travel, it will also help ease road congestion on local roads supporting the sustainability agenda.<\/p>\n<p>Bow Street will benefit from the introduction of brand-new trains and an hourly weekday service from 2022, and other stations along the line will benefit from the investment as part of TfWs \u00a3194m <a href=\"https:\/\/tfw.wales\/projects\/station-improvement-vision\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Station Improvement Vision<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Located close to the UK Innovation and Research Campus that is being developed by Aberystwyth University, the station will provide access between the site and the University\u2019s main campus in Aberystwyth itself.<\/p>\n<p>The station will be served by trains on the Cambrian Line between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury and will be the first of several improvements to services on the line as part of TfWs transformation of Wales and Borders rail service.<\/p>\n<h3>Links to multi-purpose facilities<\/h3>\n<p>Ken Skates, minister for economy and transport, said: \u201cOur vision for railways includes the opening of new stations and the improvement of connectivity across all regions in Wales.
