Then with the building of the new hospital, over 8,800 cubic metres of concrete containing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/cementaid-everdure-caltite-system-2\/61531\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Everdure Caltite<\/a> was used to waterproof the basement slab, retaining walls and tunnels of the hospital and the energy centre.<\/p>\n<p>The Caltite waterproof concrete system is a time-proven, practical system that produces damp-proof, highly durable concrete which can be used either as a standalone system or incorporated as part of a dual system when required.<\/p>\n<p>Caltite has a successful track record of over 60 years helping designers, developers and owners waterproof and protect concrete structures, even under the most aggressive conditions, including over 55 years of experience in corrosion protection.<\/p>\n<h3>The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh<\/h3>\n<p>With the anticipated opening of the hospital in 2018, services from the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services will relocate from Sciennes Road, Western General Hospital, and Royal Edinburgh Hospital, to their purpose-built new home at Little France in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/hlmarchitects.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HLM Architects<\/a>, with structural engineers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertbird.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robert Bird Group<\/a>, the principal contractor for the hospital is again Multiplex. Some 3,500m3\u00a0of concrete containing Everdure Caltite has been used to waterproof the basement slab, retaining walls and link tunnels of the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Everdure Caltite has a history with hospital developments going back to 1962 and that first hospital is still in operation today, with the Caltite waterproofing performing just as it did in 1962.
