{"id":71239,"date":"2020-02-05T08:42:07","date_gmt":"2020-02-05T08:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=71239"},"modified":"2020-02-05T09:07:04","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T09:07:04","slug":"railway-apprenticeship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/railway-apprenticeship\/71239\/","title":{"rendered":"Amey launches railway engineering apprenticeship scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amey.co.uk\/amey-consulting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amey Consulting<\/a> has joined forces with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sheffield Hallam University<\/a> to launch a railway engineering apprenticeship scheme to help bring new talent into the industry<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The fully funded five-year railway engineering apprenticeship scheme will enable 30 new students to learn and earn at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The scheme <\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This scheme enables college leavers to gain a bespoke railway engineering degree from Sheffield Hallam University, choosing a pathway in either electrical and mechanical (E&amp;M), civil and track (C&amp;T) or signalling and telecoms (S&amp;T) engineering. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The programme also allows students to work at Amey Consulting on real life engineering problems on live railway projects in parallel with their studies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On completion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amey.co.uk\/rail-degree-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">degree apprenticeship programme<\/a>, students will have obtained a Bachelors degree in railway engineering, as well as having gained sufficient experience and knowledge to register as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imeche.org\/membership-registration\/become-a-member\/incorporated-engineer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Incorporated Engineer<\/a> (I.Eng) with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theiet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Institute of Engineering and Technology<\/a> (IET).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This scheme is an integral part of Amey\u2019s commitment to drive innovation in employment practices, striving for greater inclusion within the workplace and its commitment to the 5% club pledge of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/modular-construction-news\/offsite-solutions-launches-new-apprenticeship-scheme\/49964\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hiring more apprentices<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The campaign was hugely successful with over 1000 applicants registering interest for opportunities in Bristol, Birmingham, Derby, Manchester, Swindon and York. The apprenticeships will start with Amey in March and will be supported and mentored throughout their studies to become a professional Engineer, alongside having the opportunity to thrive in a diverse and dynamic business.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The future for effective engineering<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">James Andrews, head of engineering at
