Garry Bowker has joined Vinci Construction UK from Kier as director for the north west regional office

Garry Bowker, who previously worked for Kier as regional director with overall responsibility for their operations in Manchester, will now head up Vinci’s north west and retail region.

Bowker takes over the position from John Roberts, who has been promoted to regional managing director for Vinci’s part of the business overseeing the north west, north east and midlands regions.

John Roberts said: “the appointment of Garry ensures we have the leadership that Vinci Construction UK requires to keep us at the forefront of the region.

“Vinci’s team are looking forward to working with Garry and I am looking forward to strengthening our business and implementing our strategy to improve our work winning opportunities across the north.”

The appointment completes the new management structure across the north following Keith Shivers retirement and Chris Winspear’s appointment as the new regional director for the north east.

Recent successful tenders

Last month (January), Vinci was chosen to deliver Staffordshire University’s £40m Catalyst building. The Catalyst building will act as a physical and virtual hub, connecting students, apprentices and employers from across the Midlands and beyond.

Catalyst features a striking yet functional design. Supported by an angular brick frame, the flexible, open-plan space comprises a glass frontage at ground level and distinctive design on the upper storeys. It is due to open in September 2021.

Back in September, the contractor was also awarded a JV contract with Balfour Beatty and Systra to deliver HS2’s new £1bn Old Oak Common station.

The joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction and commissioning of Old Oak Common station in North West London, delivering six underground platforms as well as up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line.

At its peak, the Old Oak Common project will employ a direct management team of 140 and a wider workforce of approximately 2,500.
