{"id":71769,"date":"2020-02-13T12:09:14","date_gmt":"2020-02-13T12:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=71769"},"modified":"2022-11-02T09:58:30","modified_gmt":"2022-11-02T09:58:30","slug":"part-l-riba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/part-l-riba\/71769\/","title":{"rendered":"Part L proposals \u2018don\u2019t go far enough\u2019 to meet climate targets, says RIBA"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The proposed changes to Part L and Part F building regulations do not go far enough, as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architecture.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Royal Institute of British Architects<\/a> (RIBA) urges Government to embed embodied carbon targets<\/h2>\n<p>In response to the Future Homes Standard consultation, RIBA has argued that Part L (Conservation of Fuel and Power) and Part F (Ventilation) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/part-l-building-regulations\/69400\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">building regulations for new homes<\/a> are \u201cnot ambitious enough\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The RIBA urges the government to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use\u00a0\u2018operational energy\u2019\u00a0(energy used at the\u00a0meter) as the principal\u00a0metric for determining the energy efficiency of buildings.<\/li>\n<li>Embed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/embodied-carbon-difficult\/66692\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">embodied carbon<\/a>\u00a0targets into building regulations.<\/li>\n<li>Close loopholes which allow homes to be built using \u2018out-of-date\u2019 regulations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Government must embed\u00a0more demanding targets<\/h3>\n<p>RIBA president, Professor Alan M Jones, said: \u201cThe proposed changes to building regulations are simply not ambitious enough to meet the scale of our environmental challenge.
