{"id":71851,"date":"2020-02-14T14:35:57","date_gmt":"2020-02-14T14:35:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=71851"},"modified":"2020-02-14T14:35:57","modified_gmt":"2020-02-14T14:35:57","slug":"mobile-elevating-work-platforms-collision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/mobile-elevating-work-platforms-collision\/71851\/","title":{"rendered":"Investigation launched into MEWP collision in Rochford"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/rail-accident-investigation-branch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rail Accident Investigation Branch<\/a> has launched an investigation into the collision of two mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) on a rail maintenance job in Essex<\/h2>\n<p>The two mobile elevating work platforms collided on 25 January on a rail maintenance job in Rochford, Essex.<\/p>\n<p>At around 10:57 on Saturday 25 January 2020, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/plant-equipment-supplies-news\/worldwide-mewp-fleet\/57318\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MEWP<\/a> travelling at around 9.2 mph collided with a similar, but stationary, machine, on the railway between Rochford and Southend Airport stations.<\/p>\n<p>The machine had travelled over 150 metres at around 10 mph prior to the collision. At the time, the railway was closed to normal traffic and the two machines were part of the equipment that was being used to renew the overhead electrical power lines.<\/p>\n<p>There were two people in the stationary mobile elevating work platform, working on the overhead line equipment, and they were thrown against the railings of the machine\u2019s basket. They both suffered severe bruising and back injuries which prevented them from working for some time.<\/p>\n<p>The single person in the moving MEWP was unhurt.
